5 Surprising Bali Golf Courses
on the island...
There are 5 Bali golf courses available on the island and 4 of them are located near tourist resorts in the southern part of the island. The other one is found in the mountains in Central-Bali.
Even though South-East Asian golf courses aren't on everybody's list of things to visit there are a couple of courses which are world famous and worth it.
The Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club
The Bali Handara must be one of the most astonishing golf courses around on Bali and it's located in the breath-taking mountains of Bedugul, a 2-hour drive from the Nusa Dua area and 1 hour from the Ubud area.
The long-journey is definitely worth it. From the low coastal regions the road winds around traditional Balinese villages, rice paddies and ascends towards the volcanic mountains.
Just after the impressive Lake Bedugul and the small town of Pancasari with its colorful market you find the long driveway of the Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club.

This Bali golf course is located on an altitude of 1.142 m above sea level and with its fresh air creates a perfect place for a round of golf. Temperatures here are moderate between 14 and 20 degrees Celsius.
The 18-holes championship golf course is designed in the 1974 by Peter Thompson, Michael Wolferidge & Associates.
There's an abundance of tall trees and indigenous flowers and the grass at the greens is creeping bent grass while the fairway is mixed with Kakuyu grass and local grass.
Par is 72 with 36 out and 36 in, the driving range has a maximum distance of 300 meters and there are 3 putting greens with bunkers.
The golf club has 4 Pro Golfers who love to instruct you on the drive range or on the 18-holes round.
They also speak Japanese which comes in handy since Bali attracts numerous Japanese travelers. Even the chef-cook in the Country Club Restaurant is Japanese.
Next to the restaurant you can find the club's hotel with bungalows and even villas but I wouldn't recommend staying here since it's way overpriced for its location and it is in need of some renovation badly.
Now when you're walking around the bungalow complex it feels like you are stuck in the 1970's and 80's, even though having your own bungalow with fire place overlooking the golf course sounds interesting...

Golf Fee: 18-holes for visitors is $130.00 USD and for guests staying in the hotel it is $65.00 USD.
Golf Lesson:Drive Range per hour $30.00 USD and a 18-holes Round Lesson is $53.00 USD
Golf Cart Fee: $25 USD
There's also a fitness center, karaoke bar, tennis court, Japanese hot bath, conference room, golf shop and also a golf equipment rental service so you don't have to bring your own heavy bags.

Nirwana Bali Golf Club
The Nirwana Bali Golf Club is located in the district of Tabanan next to the most photographed temple of Asia, the Pura Tanah Lot and the stylish Le Meridien resort. It's only 45 minutes by car from the airport and the Kuta region.
This Bali golf course is designed by Greg Norman and Bob Harrison in 1998 and is now managed by IMG, the world's largest sports marketing and management company.
The course has a par 72 layout with multiple tees up to 6,775 yards.

Since its opening the golf course has won numerous awards and it's easy to see why...
You have 6,170 meters of golf course in front of you which leads along rice paddies, creeks, forests, valleys, a black beach and the amazing cliffs of the Indian Ocean.
It is therefore also one of the most inspiring golf courses in Asia where the ocean winds have free play around the numerous landforms and holes.
There's even one hole where you have to hit the ball across and ocean inlet. Can it get even better?
The Nirwana Bali Golf Club's signature hole is hole number 7 with a view on the waves which crash into the Tanah Lot temple.

Walking all of the 18 holes takes approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes and can take even longer during the weekends and public holidays when local members flock to the course. Try to avoid these days...
Fees:
Golf fee: 18-holes for visitors is $162 USD on weekdays and $174 USD in the weekend and on public holidays.
There's also an option for sunset golf starting from 4 pm and this costs $54 USD both for weekdays, weekends and on public holidays.
The Nirwana Golf Club also offers a golf shop, golf equipment rental service, locker rooms, a casual dining restaurant and local caddies to ensure a fantastic round of golf.

Balibeach Golf Course
The Balibeach Golf Course is located in the northern part of Sanur, which is only a 30-minute drive from the Nusa Dua and Kuta area.
This golf course is the oldest of all the golf courses on Bali and was constructed in the 60's together with the Bali Beach hotel (now the Inna Grand Bali Beach hotel) across the street.
This Bali golf course has recently been re-modeled and renovated to comply with the latest standards and is designed by the Indonesian Rajakulasingham.
There are now a lot of tall trees, flowers and a couple of lakes together with newly constructed greens.

The 9-hole golf course has a total length of 3560 yards with a blue tee of 3.250 yards, a red tee of 2.700 yards and a white tee of 3.058 yards. It has a lay-out of par 36 with seven par 4's, one par 5 and one par 3.
Since the location of the golf course is near the beach the wind should be taken into account on a couple of holes.

Golf fee: They have very attractive prices here and it costs only $54 USD for a 9-hole round of golf or $67 USD to walk 18-holes.
Prices are inclusive green fee, caddy fee and government tax.
They also have a golf Pro shop, a golf equipment rental service and restaurant with a great terrace next to the course that serves Asian/Western dishes.

Bali Golf and Country Club Nusa Dua
The Bali Golf and Country Club is located in the southern part of Nusa Dua and it takes only 20 minutes by car from the airport or the Kuta area.
This 18-hole championship Nusa Dua golf course is designed by Nelson & Wright and is voted "One of Asia 5 Best Golf courses" by Fortune Magazine.
Nusa Dua Golf Course at holes 1-9
There are multiple tees which range from 5,028 to 6,871 yards, par 72 and the championship tees of 72.4 with men's tees 70.4 and ladies tees of 69.9.
There are two putting greens for practicing and one chipping green. Holes 1-9 with its creeks, canyons and tropical gardens are located in the northern part in the hilly area of Nusa Dua.
This is the perfect place from where you have stunning vistas on the Indian Ocean in the distance.
When you come here early in the morning (preferable before 12am) you have a big chance to see Bali's most sacred mountain, the Gunung Agung too
 .

Hole 10 until 18 are set around the clubhouse, the 16-acre lake, coconut trees and just a stone-throw away from the beach. Hole 17 leads straight towards the beach and hole 18 leads back to the clubhouse.
Fees:
Golf fee: A round of 18 holes of golf at the Bali Golf and Country Club costs $142 USD and an extra 9-holes on the same day costs $60 USD (only available after 3pm).
Tee times start at 6 am until 4pm. Last one for 18 holes at 1.50 pm.
There also the 'Sundowner' with tees of at 3pm until the sun goes down, which is around 6.30pm. This costs $70 USD.
All prices here are exclusive 10% Government tax but include a golf cart (with mini-bar), a multi-lingual caddy and service charge.
Just like the other Bali golf courses it gets pretty crowded during the weekends so try to avoid them as much as possible. Average it takes 4 hours 30 min for a round of golf at the Nusa Dua golf course.
For those that like to get some training there is PGA Golf Professional staff available who will help you with your swing and show you the latest techniques.
The Nusa Dua golf club also has a golf Pro shop, a golf equipment rental service, a cafe and a restaurant with international dishes.

New Kuta Golf Course
The New Kuta Golf Course is located on the west coast lime stone cliffs of the Bukit Peninsula and not far from Dreamland beach and Balangan Beach. It takes around 20 minutes from the Kuta area to get here.
By the way these beaches are one of the most gorgeous beaches in this southern part of Bali and I won't be surprised if you just kept staring at the beach instead of playing your round of golf.
Inland water bodies at New Kuta Golf Club
The 18-hole Bali golf course (par 72) is designed by Ronald Fream, David Dale & Kevin Ramsey and comprises of 85 hectares.
Their unique selling point obviously is the view from the cliffs but the course can be treacherous.
Since this part of Bali together with the Tulamben area are the hottest places on the island you have to be extra alert while playing here. It looks like the roof is on fire here...
Luckily your golf cart is stocked with a cool box and on holes 6 and 15 there is "the shelter", which provides you with cool drinks and snacks too.

If you can't handle it anymore you can always head over to the Link Restaurant that serves a variety of Indonesian dishes with a view on hole 18 and the putting green.
The New Kuta Golf club also has a golf shop, golf equipment rental service (both left and right handers) and a spa to come back to your senses again.
Fees:
Golf fee: A round of 18 holes costs $111 USD (weekends $141) or unlimited all day for $141 USD (weekends $165).
There's also the 9-hole sunset golf, which starts after 4pm for $52 USD during weekdays and in the weekend $58 USD. These fees include green fee, cart fee, caddy services, player insurance and 10% government tax.
