When you’re standing in front of Cafe Wayan in Ubud you will not imagine what lies hidden behind...

Just after passing the delicious cakes that are displayed at the front and the bar in the main building, you will enter a lush tropical garden...

 

The café is located at the busy Jalan Monkey Forest Ubud

 

Even if you are not looking for a place to eat, this is a perfect place to have a drink and enjoy the company in a very romantic setting.

Just stroll all the way to the back first to find a table where you want to sit, because besides regular tables the cafe also has ‘lesehan’. These are low set tables with pillows around and often you can sit in privacy...

 

Comfortable seating is scattered throughout the garden...

 

There are romantic styled lesehan for two with white decorated pillows or lesehan for larger groups. One reminder though...before entering, don’t forget to take of your shoes...

I have been to Wayan for dinner, for a piece of cake and just for a drink. On their menu they have Indonesian food and other Asian and Western dishes.

A great dish is the oven grilled eggplant with cheese and vegetables and the fried egg-noodles. This sounds very plain, but it is deliciously fried with a lot of vegetables.

If you still have some space in your stomach or you are just looking for a place that serve good cakes than this cafe is a very good option. Bali guide books and the staff boost about their ‘death by chocolate’ cake.

I gave it a try, but was a tiny bit disappointed...maybe because of my high expectations or because the chocolate just doesn’t taste the same as at home.

I would definitely return for the carrot cake though. This smooth thick piece of cake tasted really good...and i'll be back for more ;-)
