The Grand Istana Rama Hotel is located right on Kuta beach Bali, the only thing that separates the hotel and the beach is one of the busiest streets in Kuta, Jalan Pantai Kuta.

The first thing you notice when you arrive at this Bali beach resort is the huge ‘candi bentar’ which is a traditional temple gate.

Their location is just perfect, it’s not far from shops, great restaurants, bars and night clubs. Even though it’s located on the busy Jalan Pantai Kuta the hotel is a very quiet place.

I was very surprised to see such a big hotel complex with gardens on a location like this since it is a very congested area.

The hotel has 146 rooms and these are divided into superior rooms, deluxe rooms, garden suites with private bungalows and a courtyard garden, 7 junior large suites large suites with separate living and sleeping areas.

The guest rooms have the usual amenities such as air conditioning, mini-bar, IDD phone, satellite television etc.

All of the rooms have wide terraces overlooking the tropical gardens with beautiful palm trees and with the sounds of exotic birds.

 

 

If you don’t feel like having breakfast in the restaurant than there’s enough space on your terrace to enjoy a Western or Indonesian Breakfast. I have tried Nasi Goreng in the morning and you have to get used to it but it tastes really good.

The two-story restaurant is perfectly located with tables along Jalan Pantai Kuta with views on the beach on one side and on the other side the hotel pool.

The views on the beach used to be much better but now the local authorities have built a white wall which obstructs the view a bit.

The best views are on the first floor from where you see early joggers, surf dudes catching the first waves, kids with body boards, surf instructors who place their rental surf boards up in the sand, ice scream sellers and vendors selling bows and arrows.

Bows and arrows? Mmmmm...maybe they expect you to catch the fish yourself?

Then this comes in handy because every Tuesday the hotel restaurant organizes a BBQ Seafood Market, where you can try various kinds of fish while enjoying Kuta’s famous sunset.

 

Ideal terrace to watch the world go by

 

Every Friday there’s the Beach BBQ dinner buffet with an all-you-can-eat policy so bring the kids for a real feast or leave them with the hotel staff, there’s a baby sitting service available.
