Immediately upon your arrival at Kupu Kupu Barong villas you'll be stunned by what you'll see and experience.

This villa complex is located just a 15 minutes drive from the Ubud area and is built on the valley slopes in which the river Ayung flows.

Kupu kupu has 27 romantic Balinese styled villas on about 3 hectares of land.

But don't worry you can use golf-carts when you feel like. Nevertheless I do recommend you to stroll around this beautiful Bali villa resort.

You will find yourself on walkways where the stone walls and statues are covered with plants and patches of moss, giving it an adventurous Indiana Jones look.

Along the walkways the villas are located and the first time when I entered the 1-bedroom villa my girlfriend and I were immediately drawn to the terrace that offers the best view of the Ayung river valley below.

 

 

A very cool thing about the entire place is that it feels like you are the only one here.

You won't hear or see your next door neighbours.

No wonder that Kupu Kupu Barong Villas is popular with honeymooners...

All of the private villas have their own plunge pool, except the Duplex Village Villas.

If you are staying here you can flip-flop to the big enough public pool and the only people you encounter here are the Balinese bar staff. Food and drinks are avaible here until late in the afternoon.

 

 

Another type of accommodation is the 2 store Royal suite which has a swimming pool instead of a plunge pool and a bale ideal for 2 adults and two kids below 13 years of age.

Some villas, like the Ayung river pool villa even have an infinity plunge pool overlooking the Ayung river valley. So while swimming you can look over the edge and have full view of the valley and river.

 

 

The style of the Kupu Kupu Barong Villas is very typical for Ubud luxury villas: non-contemporary but more traditional but still very classy.

The accessories and decorations also perfectly match its surroundings with orchids, wooden statues and vases that remind you of the many wonders on this island.

 

 

All of the villas are equipped with modern facilities such as the DVD and CD player with additional collection, IDD telephone and mini bar.

On top of that there is a butler on call whenever you need him/her. So you don't have to arrange anything yourself, everything is taken care of...

 

The configuration of the Kupu Kupu Barong villas are different, but every villa has the same Balinese style with a romantic draped bed, sofas, china cabinet and dark wooden walls and floors which give extra warmth to the place.

A great feature in the bathroom are the big windows that enable natural light to come in and they have a double wash basin, bath and shower.

 

 

The Kupu Kupu Barong Villas is also the place to be to enjoy luxurious therapeutic spa treatments.

Besides the big spa building at the entrance there are 4 other exclusive Mango Tree Spa rooms scattered around the premises.

A very unique feature is that each couple spa room has its own style. The most magical setting is the Tree Spa room (bookings in advance required since it's very popular), which is built from bamboo and is located high up in the branches of a big Mango tree.

The other spas at Kupu Kupu Barong Villas are the Water, Fire, and Earth room, the Garden spa and the Lumbung (rice barn) house.

There is also a beautifully decorated steam bath located underground. But if you don't feel like leaving the luxury of your own private villa, you can also request a spa treatment in your villa.

Fortunately there is a huge choice of different spa experiences here ;-)

 

Besides treating yourself on a spa, there are complementary Morning Yoga classes which start at 8 am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

If all of this isn't your 'cup of tea' Kupu kupu organizes various things such as Balinese dance lessons, trekking, Ayung white river rafting, a cooking class, a trip to a safari-park, golfing etc.

There is also a free shuttle service that leaves every hour to and from Ubud.

But if this is just a bit too much for you, you can walk over to the bar which serves complementary Balinese sweets with tea and coffee between 3pm to 5pm.

Afterwards when the sun is just about to set you can stay at the bar and enjoy the happy hour till 7pm while admiring the gorgeous panoramic view.

For lunch and dinner you can taste the fabulous Asian and French cuisine prepared by Ma Joly restaurant.

When it gets darker the restaurant is beautifully lit with candles and you can enjoy a romantic dinner as the cool but pleasant evening mist sets in...

My girlfriend and I were really impressed by this remarkable villa complex which is located beautifully and looks very classy, but on top of that it definitely meets the level of exclusive luxury.
