The Kuta Paradiso Hotel Bali, a shopping oasis near the sea...The Kuta Paradiso Hotel Bali is located right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Kuta and is the ideal hotel for shopaholics on the busy Jalan Kartika Plaza. This street is also home to the Discovery Shopping Mall, Matahari Department Store, Kuta’s Slingshot, the Waterbom Park, Kuta Art market and lots of restaurants, bars and shops. Before you go through a metal detector for security reasons you pass a red Ferrari, Volkswagen Beetle, Jaguar limousine and electrical scooters. It’s a pity you can’t take these toys out for a spin since the traffic around Kuta is constantly congested. The lobby of the hotel is the biggest lobby I’ve seen in Kuta until now. The first thing you notice are the kecak statues of men sitting around a fountain, where the lifts are also located.
On the left side of the lobby is the reception and on the right side you find Garuda Indonesia’s ticketing office, the Mickey Mouse Club for kids, the 24-hour Paradiso Clinic and the Tourist Information Office. Towards the back you pass the tea and coffee shop that serves cakes all day and the stylish El Patio restaurant with its beige and brown colours.
If you love Sushi and Sashimi like I do you’re lucky because the hotel has a classy Japanese restaurant too with those small typical Japanese private rooms so you can have lots of fun with the family and not feel out of place. Before I forget, there's another Japanese restaurant across the street from the hotel as well and there's a Ryoshi restaurant down the road in Tuban, a 300 m walk. Anyway after you pass the tea and coffee shop in the lobby you’re at the beautiful courtyard with swaying palm trees and colourful frangipani flowers. The lagoon pool is divided by a bridge in the middle of the courtyard with even a special section for kids and babies.The palm trees around the pool provide enough shade to read a good book all day or just to doze off. If you're into tanning at the pool all day it's better to book yourself a room at the Hardrock hotel on Kuta Beach since the Paradiso Hotel Bali is a high rise hotel and doesn't get that much sun.
If you don’t want to doze off but want some action instead an introductory course for scuba divers and aqua-robics lessons are also available here. Cocktails and cold beers are served at the Laguna Pool Bar and next to the bar you can pamper yourself with a well-deserved Balinese spa treatment. The Kuta Paradiso Hotel Bali also has an air-conditioned gym on the hotel grounds and it’s ideally located on ground level with a view on the courtyard and terrace. Here you can work out on the treadmills, gain muscle with some dumbbells or pay a visit to the sauna. The hotel is 'five-star' rated but this shouldn't be taken to seriously in Kuta since I have yet to find a 5-star hotel that matches those in Nusa Dua or Ubud. The Kuta Paradiso Hotel Bali has 191 deluxe rooms, 42 superior rooms, 9 junior suites and even one presidential suite. Most of these rooms have nice balconies from where you can have your breakfast in the morning or a good glass of wine in the evening while you enjoy the cool breeze coming from the sea. Try to avoid the rooms near the courtyard on the lower floor since it can get noisy in the evening when there's music coming from the bar. The best value for money are the Deluxe pool view rooms (with kingsize beds) on the top floors with sea views.
The Kuta Paradiso Hotel Bali is a good place for those travelers who's main objective is to shop around Kuta and come back to a good hotel with all the amenities you wish for. The downside is that I wouldn't recommend this hotel for travelers who are looking for a tan, direct access to the beach or for families with kids since there are much better kids' clubs around such as for example the Kupu kids' club at the Dynasty hotel in the same street. The average price per night for the Deluxe pool view room is around $98 USD incl. breakfast, 21% tax and service, which is actually quiet a good deal.
