MannekePis Seminyak will take you
straight to Belgium...

Belgium cuisine is probably not your first choice when you travel to Bali, but the bistro MannekePis Seminyak is worth the experience. The restaurant is not only named after the famous little boy statue in Brussels, but the interior and ambiance resembles the character of Belgium as well.

It is definitely a unique place in Bali that will take you to the world called Belgian beer and Belgian specialities such as Gentse Waterzooi (broth), Stoemp (pork sausage) or Stovers (beef stewed in dark beer).

Don't be scared off immediately...;-)

 

 

Manneke Pis has a wide range wonderful International Dishes too. There is a large choice of Asian and  Mexican dishes, Pastas, Salads and even the good old steak.

For some dishes they have created their own unique twist to it to ensure that your taste buds can experience something new and delicious too...

And while you eat you can enjoy the terrific setting, the wonderful black-white pictures of great artists and listen to a large selection of Jazz and Blues in the background.

The MannekePis Restaurant has about 2500 CD's so no matter how long you are here you will hear different first-rate sounds the whole day...

When we visited this wonderful restaurant it was for a very early lunch, so in the beginning we were the first customers. But slowly more people came in to enjoy their lunch, coffee and of course a tasty Belgian beer. 

 

During the evening more people gather at this bistro to taste the delicious dishes, eat by candle light and enjoy the rest of their evening with great music..  

On Tuesday and Saturday it gets busier as MannekePis organizes live Jazz performances. So even more reasons to head over there when you are in the neighbourhood...

 

You can either sit outside on a small terrace or head inside where the wonderful atmosphere welcomes you instantly, even when it is still very quiet.

You can also go to the second floor where more tables are set and a larger terrace is found.

Additionally there is a pool table upstairs and a aquarium on the floor. Sounds a bit wrong, but the aquarium is set in the ceiling of the ground floor.

So if you look up you see gold fish swimming happily above your head...

 

Everytime I visit Antwerp or Brussels myself I always order the Mussels. So why not here as well right?

After the terrific lunch my girlfriend and I were convinced: this place is a must to know and a must to go. The sauteed Pacific mussels in white wine were just delicious and the chunky Belgian fries made the dish more than complete.

After lunch we stayed for another drink, listened to the great music and had a chat with the Belgian owner.

She told us that they had run a restaurant in Belgium for years and in the beginning of 2008 they had opened this place which is becoming more and more known.

 

 

Of course when you are in Bali you should discover the diverse and tasty Bali food. But if you want a bit of a change then it's not a surprise I recommend MannekePis Seminyak as a really terrific and unique place to eat in town.

Looking at the reviews posted on the walls in the restroom of the Bistro, I could read that we were not the only ones who enjoyed this Belgian delight.
