The 'four-star' Mercure Kuta Bali is located at Jalan Pantai Kuta just at 20 m from the beach.
I have passed this new hotel many times when I strolled around the beach and I never found it really attractive to be honest.
The latest trend in building in Kuta is high rise. You can see this with the massive Discovery Mall, the Sheraton Kuta and now also with the Mercure Kuta Bali which has 4 stories.

Entrance to the Mercure Kuta Hotel
There's not much real estate left in Kuta where you can built a hotel so more and more developers are building higher than the highest palm tree (this used to be the old building law).
I think it's a pity since the view on Kuta beach gets distorted a lot more by these building and it takes away the charm that Bali is so famous for.
Ahh I think I just love the old way of bungalows set under palm trees...

Lobby at the Mercure Kuta Bali
Nonetheless curiosity killed the cat so I walked into the hotel and surprisingly I was impressed by the hotel lobby, the courtyard with the palm trees (yes they even have them here) and the fish pond in the middle of the building.
It’s also great to see guests with their surf boards under their arms walking through the lobby towards the beach.
There’s a surf school in the hotel's main building called Odyssey’s. You can go for some lessons here or you can ask one of the many Balinese surf dudes on the beach to teach you.

The Mercure courtyard with palm trees
The hotel has 130 colored rooms with balconies built in a style you see more these days in Bali, a mix of traditional Balinese with a modern twist to it.
Wear sunglasses though when you enter the rooms since the green colors might hurt your eyes. Another minor point is that the rooms are quit small compared to what you pay for it or might be used to.
The hotel claims to have a "beyond your imagination experience" on the rooftop so there’s where I went...

The rooftop swimming pool at the Mercure Kuta Bali
The rooftop is not "beyond your imagination" (that's marketing talk) as I expected, but I have to say it has the best view from any of the Kuta hotels...
The infinity pool isn’t such a bad place to do some laps either…

The Alang Alang Restaurant, Sunset Pool Bar and Spa are all located on the rooftop and from here you can overlook the whole of Kuta Beach without exaggeration…

View on Bali Kuta Beach from the Mercure Hotel
Imagine a Spa treatment with a view like this...I wouldn't mind getting a body wrap or traditional Balinese massage if I can stare at the sea for hours...

Wrap it up at the Mercure's outdoor spa room
Not far from the outdoor spa room you can find a terrace with chairs and tables where you can have dinner with your family or your loved one.
This must be the most romantic place in Kuta (and as you know Kuta is not the most romantic place), just you and your partner having dinner with such a view. As you probably know the beach is famous for one of the best sunsets on the island.

Fancy dinner for two at the Mercure
Hotel Bali
...?
I have to say I’m glad I paid a visit to the hotel, this is one of those hotels that’s right in the middle of all the action even when you’re not into surfing or bungalows:-)
Note that the 4-stars on this hotel might be all little bit flattered compared to other properties on the island but I have to say that most of the hotels in Kuta are of less quality compared to those in Sanur or Ubud.
Minor point are the small rooms and hulk-like bathrooms. However the atmosphere in the Mercure Kuta is really good and all of Kuta's action is straight in front of you.
