Murnis Warung Ubud opened its doors in 1974 and can be considered as one of the first restaurants in town. Back then most of the tourism activity was located in the Campuan area, but today hundreds of other restaurants can be found all over the village.
Nevertheless Murnis Warung Ubud is still one of the popular places to grab a drink or a bite.

At first you would think that this place is pretty small. At the entrance you pass a souvenir shop which then leads you to a couple of tables with views on the river gorge below.
But when you walk around a little bit more you will realize that this restaurant is pretty big. There are stairs going down three levels.
First the bar, then another restaurant section and finally what I think is the best place: the lowest level where you can sit in the middle of the river gorge.

The lowest level of Murnis Warung Ubud, the best place to sit
Here you can sit next to lush vegetation while enjoying their extensive menu of Western and Indonesian food.
Murnis Warung Ubud serves the most popular and typical Indonesian dishes such as Nasi Goreng, Cap Cay, Gado Gado, Nasi Campur and Mie Kuah/Goreng (noodle soup/fried noodles)
One special dish stands out from the rest which is 'Murni's Fish in tauco sauce'. It's described as an award winning dish so I definitely had to try it out! Not bad, I have to say but not one of those dishes that I would come back for.

Fish in tauco sauce for me, and nasi campur for my girlfriend
As for the western selection they have soups, burgers, hotdogs, pastas, schnitzels or fish and meat from the grill. And if you always wanted to try it out, they serve frog legs here as well. By the way they serve breakfast too.
The biggest reason why you should check out Murni's Warung is because of their desserts...

Everywhere in Murnis Warung Ubud you'll find beautiful artifacts as decorations...
Their dessert list covers a whole page in their menu. They have all kinds of cakes such as carrot cake, banana cake, strawberry banana yoghurt pie, cheese cake, coconut cake, rum rich chocolate cake and a number of typical Balinese treats.
I tried their apple pie...it was a big piece, but so good I could easily finish it all.
So I can truly say that this is one of the places to go to in Ubud if you are looking for mouthwatering cake...

Ready, steady, go...
My girlfriend and I also had lunch and breakfast at Murnis Warung Ubud.
To be honest, we don't recommend you to go to Murnis Warung Ubud for their food as there are many other places in Ubud that serve much tastier and more authentic dishes.
However you should definitely go for their river gorge view, nice atmosphere and their extensive list of desserts. We definitely will go back to try out more of their delicious cakes!
