A surprising visit to Piccadilly Restaurant
in Sanur

To be honest, a restaurant named 'Piccadilly Restaurant' is not what we would expect to see in the center of Sanur in tropical Bali. At first we didn’t immediately jump inside to taste the food, but after a while curiosity killed the cat and we gave it a try.

And I am glad we did...

The name does not indicate the type of food at all...

I expected fish and chips and baked beans with bacon or something like that. Instead, the German owner (also a surprising detail...I must try to get to meet him so I can ask him where he got the name for his restaurant) has created a menu with all kinds of Western and Indonesian food.

 

When you visit Bali you don't expect a restaurant
called Piccadilly Circus, do you?

 

The first time I ate here I ordered the Spaghetti Marinara and the different crispy and delicious topped pizzas just tasted delicious and much better than the Italian food in countries outside Italy (you must give the Italians some credit, right?).

My parents ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu, a real typical European dish and the chicken wings. At first I was a bit sceptical about their choice because it sounded too boring for my taste.

But once the dish was served I was impressed. These dishes were displayed picture perfectly and looking at my parents faces, it tasted even better.

The table next door ordered the Fish Kebab, one of my favorite dishes. The kebab included big chunks of grilled fish, prawns and vegetables which were served in a funny way: dangling on a hook.

The Piccadilly Restaurant also serves a large selection of cocktails at their bar. Don't worry about having too much to drink and not being able to find your way back to your hotel. The restaurant provides free transport to Sanur hotels.

On most evenings there is a live band that plays comfortable background music. Depending on the location of your table, the music is not too loud so you don’t have to yell during dinner conversations.

I must admit the interior of the restaurant is pretty hidious, considering it's very English and it has nothing to do with Bali.

But if you don't mind the interior and the taste of the food is more important, then Piccadilly Restaurant is a very good choice when you are in Sanur Bali. If you are not in Sanur for dinner time, Piccadilly has other restaurants as well in Kuta and Nusa Dua.
