Poppies Restaurant Kuta,
one of the popular places in town

Poppies Restaurant is located in the Poppies 1 and it's one of the oldest restaurants in Kuta. The Poppies alleys are even named after them.

You can't get there by car though because the alleys are very narrow. However, this doesn't stop the many motor scooters from rushing by.

On their menu they proudly mention they still serve dishes that have been popular since they opened their doors in 1974.

You’ll be amazed when you enter the temple-styled entrance. Poppies restaurant is set in a big open garden covered with plants above and everywhere along the walls.

It feels like you just entered a secret garden, especially after walking through Poppies busy narrow alley.

Throughout the garden there are different sections to sit in, making it feel more private when having dinner by candle light.

Poppies Kuta has all types of food on their menu from Indonesian till Italian. If you always wanted to eat real Indonesian food but never knew what to choose from then here is you chance. Poppies has the ‘rijsttafel’ on its menu.

Nasi Campur: Trying a bit of everything

Rijsttafel, which means rice table in Dutch is not authentic Indonesian as it was introduced by the colonial Dutch themselves. But until today the word is still used to describe a table full of Indonesian dishes.

So when you order this, your whole table will be covered with small little plates filled with many typical Indonesian dishes. You’ll have an enjoyable time tasting them all and finding out which Indonesian dish is your favorite.

Watch out for the spicy stuff...!

Craving for Western food, Poppies restaurant can help you out

Other meals at Poppies restaurant are pretty good, however I was once a bit disappointed because of the mild taste of the food. But if you go for the grilled fish, you will be in for a treat...

If you like the setting of Poppies as well and your're thinking of staying a couple of nights, further down the alley you can find the Poppies Cottages which is owned by the same owner as the restaurant.
