Surfing at Kuta Beach

Hey Matt,

I want to respond on your surfing experience.

I recentely travelled to Bali where I spend two and a half weeks. The plan was to dive into the culture of Bali ( mainly for my thesis) but hardly the only dive I made was from my surfboard into the rolling ocean at Kuta beach. The theme of my holiday transformed into surfing in Bali :-)

I arrived late so I decided not to go to Ubud directly but to stay one night in Kuta. I never left (beside one day tour with a motorcicle - at least I made it to Ubud). That first night I went to a bar to encounter my first surf dudes experience. Those guys where talking so enthousiastic about beaches and waves, I didn't understand and had to try it myself.

The next day I went to Big Kahuna, it is across the beach near Poppies at besides that big yellow M-sign:-)
Local guys hanging around at the beach are suddenly employed by this surf school teaching the first priciples of surfing. And they know what they are talking about. Within two hours I was standing on a surfboard doing crazy tricks (which most of the time ended in a plunch in the water). I had so much fun !!

After four hours of surfing I was exhausted but I also fell in love with this sport. That night I went to the same bar again and heart myself talking about the waves too.

The next two weeks I went surfing almost daily. Big Kahuna gave my some discount for renting a surfboard. At the first lesson they also made some funny pictures (I added some).

I totally agree with you, Matt!!! Surfing is great and Kuta is a great place to try it!!

Take care!

Markus
