Toke Restaurant and Bar, a mixture of Balinese and International cuisine

Toke Restaurant is located on the main road (Jalan Raya Candi dasa) of Candi dasa. If you are coming from the west of the island, let's say Ubud or Klungkung then it is at the beginning of the village on your left hand side.

We went here to have dinner and probably like most customers decided to give it a try because the restaurant looked nice from the outside.

 

 

It has an open-air pavilion, a colourful garden and at night there were candles throughout the restaurant. 

If the ambiance is that good, then the food must be of the same level don't you think?

Luckily it is...

Candi dasa is located right at sea, so not surprisingly the restaurant has taken advantage of the availability of fresh seafood.

 

You can peek at how your food is prepared...

My girlfriend ordered the "Seafood Sensation", which included grilled calamari, a big piece of squid and white fish topped with an onion sauce. A great combination ;-)

Besides the regular menu the restaurant also has daily specials from which I ordered the perfectly grilled mahi mahi covered with pesto.

Mahi mahi together with Tuna is the most popular fish on Bali so don't be surprised to see them on the "catch of the day" blackboard almost every day of the week ;-)

 

Great food with great company....

My sister, who is definitely not a seafood lover, checked out the large selection of Western, Indian and Bali food.

We are still confused about the Indian twist of the restaurant, considering the owner is Dutch. But we tried the naan bread which was quite good, so next time we have to try more Indian food here.

Anyway my sister decided to have Italian and had a delicious pasta with home made sauce.

Besides the good looking restaurant there is a bar that serves a dozen or more popular cocktails.

You can either sit at the bar or head over to the low tables surrounded by pillows. A very comfortable place to sip your cocktail till late in the evening.

We had a great dinner at this restaurant and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a classy place to eat in Candi dasa.

Besides this restaurant, the owner has another restaurant in Candi dasa called 'Vincent's' which is named after the famous Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. 

Toke is a great place but the food and ambiance at Vincent's is slightly better so definitely worth checking out too when you're staying a couple of days in Candi dasa.
