The Unique and Secluded Ubud
Hanging Gardens

Ubud Hanging Gardens is located in Desa Buahan, a 25-minute drive from Ubud village.

It is set on the steep slopes of a river gorge from where you have amazing views over the tropical rain forests, which is without a doubt the unique selling point of this place.

The first time my girlfriend and I arrived at this Bali villa resort we were greeted by the friendly staff and a cute little Balinese girl who was preparing offerings on the floor at the entrance.

Since the resort is built on steep slopes we were very happy to hear that we didn't have to take the stairs to the villa.

Instead the fastest mode of transport here is a unique funicular tram that will take you to resort's facilities such as the restaurants, the public pool and the Ayung spa.

Of course you can always take the 450 steps down...

...which you might have to do since the service stops after 11 pm.

Once we got off the tram and arrived at the Bali luxury private villa we checked out the panoramic view with the Pura Penataran Dalem Segara Temple on the other side of the valley.

All we could bring out were many 'oohhs' and 'ahhs' and we slowly fell in love with this special place.

Ubud Hanging Gardens consists of 38 private luxury villas and they can be divided into Panoramic View Pool Villas and Riverside View Pool Villas all with private sundecks and heated 29 degrees infinity edge pools.

Yep it can get pretty chilly here during the evening since you're near the mountains so a heated 29 degrees swimming pool isn't such a bad idea, don't you think? ;-)

Next to the pool you've got your own private sundeck with terrace where you can sip your cocktails or have a romantic dinner if you feel like.

Now back to the interior of the secluded villas. Here I'll try to give you a short description of them...

 

 

Panoramic View Pool Villas
a) Panoramic Deluxe Pool Villa:This villa has comfortable king-sized beds or two twin beds with en-suite bathroom, a hand-finished stone bathtub and shower, an ideal villa for couples or honeymooners. It measures 100 sqm.

b) Panoramic Pool Villa Suite: This villa looks a lot like the one above but with two sinks in the en-suite bathroom and one extra sofa. It is also a lot bigger with 150 sqm and a bit more expensive.

c) Family Pool Villa: This is the only villa with two floors but also with indoor and outdoor bathrooms. On the ground floor there's a bedroom with king-sized beds and en-suite bathroom.

When you take the winding staircase to the next floor you'll find another bedroom with king-sized beds (or twin beds), the bathroom and a living with a large terrace and the private swimming pool.

Riverside View Pool Villas
a) Riverside Deluxe Pool Villa:This villa has views on the Ayung River located below and the rest of the valley landscape. The only difference with the villas above is the location. The villas are on the lower level of the property. So besides that everything is the same, the size of the villas also measures 100 sqm.

All villas are equipped with amenities such as IDD telephone, unlimited broadband Internet, CD/DVD player, mini-bar, in-room safe, bathrobe + slippers, hair dryer, bottled water and a welcome basket with several types of tropical fruits.

When this arouses your appetite you can head over to the Diatas Pohon Cafe (Cafe in the trees) where lunch is served from 12 to 6pm. This is also the place to get complimentary afternoon high-tea with Balinese cakes.

The Bukit Becik Bar (Beautiful Hill Bar) is located near the gorgeous and unique two-story public pool and is a very relaxed lounge bar where you can have your drinks between 10am-11pm.

Even though a private pool does sound like a place you can't pull yourself away from, at Ubud Hanging Gardens it is also a must to try out the public infinity pool.

I've never seen something like it...

You can swim to the edge of the pool and look down the river gorge. You'll have uninterrupted views over the green valley. It's really amazing.

In the evening you can go to our favorite restaurants in Ubud. The resort offers a free return shuttle bus service between 9am-11.30am and 2pm-5.30 pm. A taxi back after 5.30 pm will cost around Rph 100.000 (around 10-15 USD).

Or you can treat yourself to the Beduur Restaurant at Ubud Hanging Gardens, which serves French and Asian dishes. Here the French chef only uses Balinese organic spices, ingredients and the freshest fish from Jimbaran market.

Wonder how the chef makes all these dishes?

The resort organizes cooking class tours too. Just ask the friendly guys at the reception and they love to tell you all about it.

Ubud Hanging Gardens is definitely the place to be where you can enjoy each others company in a beautiful setting. But on top of that it is a place to find total relaxation. Of course the resort provides enough opportunity to do so.

Not far from the Diatas Pohon Cafe is the Ayung Spa where you can pamper yourself to Balinese massages, foot reflexology, flower petal baths and treatments with names such as the 'ultimate chocolate scrub' and the 'coconut & rice scrub'.

Another great facility are the yoga and meditation classes, private or in a group. Ubud Hanging Gardens offers you a unique place to join these classes along the river or in a Bale located in a quiet place surrounded by lush vegetation.

Other activities are special tours around the island, trekking or mountain biking in the area, visiting the local village nearby and wild water rafting on the same Ayung river. Customized can be arranged prior to arrival or when you are there.

Staying at Ubud Hanging Gardens is an unique experience, perfect for the romantic occasion or to get away from the stress of daily life.

This luxurious Ubud accommodation does emphasize romance as they offer all kinds of romantic theme dinners ('Declaration of love' dinner says enough, right?), so don't worry if your not into the romantic mood yet, they will get you into it...

But nevertheless Ubud Hanging Gardens is also a great place for friends and families. And who doesn't want to wake up every morning, jump in the pool and hear the birds singing in the green tropical valley around you?

I couldn't think of a better way to start my day...
