The luxurious Uma Ubud hotel is located on Jalan Raya Sanggingan just outside the centre of Ubud and next to the famous Neka Museum on three hectares of land.

This is an isolated area of Ubud even though it’s located near the busy road. Along this road you find numerous art galleries and a handful of local restaurants.

When I got here the security man at the entrance showed me his white teeth and welcomed me to this beautiful Bali boutique hotel.

It looks like they hired him especially for this set of teeth because the stylish hotel lobby and the rest of the hotel are as white and bright as the teeth of the man.

Here at the lobby face towels are brought to you and I found the staff to be very helpful, they arrange anything you need.

All of the guest rooms are located behind the lobby in a park with colourful frangipani flowers and huge hanging banyan trees.

Every guest room is an attractive bungalow with an astonishing view on the gardens and some even with uninterrupted views on the Campuhan Valley and the river Wos below...

  • The hotel has 29 double rooms and suites and consists of 14 Terrace rooms (45 sqm) with garden terraces,

  • 10 Garden rooms (53 sqm) with private courtyards,

  • the Uma Suite (94 sqm) with separate sitting area,

  • 3 Uma Pool Suites (94 sqm) with infinity-edge pools and

  • 1 Shambhala Suite (95 sqm) with an infinity-edge pool and a treatment area.

Modern amenities include air conditioning, fan, mosquito nets, Bose stereo, Dvd player (free DVDs from the reception), 21" flat screen TVs, electronic personal safe, complimentary coffee/tea making facilities, broadband Internet, mini-bar and Como Shambhala bathroom products in the stylish open-air bathrooms.

The interior design is as expected white, with minimal furniture and decorations that is produced locally. A nice detail of most of the suites at Uma Ubud is that there are a lot of windows to ensure that natural lighting can enter the rooms as much as possible.

Around the hotel and below towards the river there are small rock trails covered with tropical flowers and plants. While walking around it feels like you're staying in the jungle-inn.

There's also a trail that leads to the Shambhala Retreat where Uma organizes free yoga and meditation classes at 8am on Tuesdays and Fridays and every afternoon at 4pm, again with the breath-taking view on the valley and its swaying coconut trees.

Not far from this building you find the spa where they offer Asian therapies in 4 treatment rooms, reflexology, steam baths, sauna and the Como Shambhala signature massage.

Getting pampered here is a real treat and the Balinese really know how to work on your aching muscles.

The resort's restaurant 'Kemiri' (means candlenut in Indonesian) is located next to the emerald green public swimming pool and the pond with gold fishes. This is a perfect spot to have breakfast, lunch or dinner.

All of the vegetables and spices served are organic and arrive fresh from the fields nearby.

The 25-meter infinity pool is located just behind the lobby together with the small ‘library’ with internet service and the hotel bar, an ideal place to meet other travellers and talk about all that you can do in Ubud and around.

The hotel is one of the most active hotels that I've come across.

They organize several tours around Ubud with private guides and they even have a Lake Batur tour from where you mountain bike downhill for 2 hours until you reach Ubud again, something I highly recommend if you are the active type of traveller.

The list of activities is too long to mention here so please ask the reception what kind of activities they provide during your stay.

There’s also a free shuttle bus service every two hours bringing you to Ubud where you can do some shopping or watch fantastic cultural performances. You can walk too if you feel like it, takes around 30 minutes.
