Villa Dua Gils, a cute little place
under the palm trees

The Villa Dua Gils complex is located in a small traditional Balinese village called Mendira, just south of Candi dasa. Next door you can find the more expensive but also eye-catching Villa Rumah Kecil and Villa Gils Candidasa.

The only difference with the other two villas is that Villa Dua Gils is not a private villa but actually three small bungalows set around the kidney-shaped pool, the restaurant, spa and library.

The first time I visited the place I thought "Hmm, they look really cute but I'm not sure if I can recommend these three villas to other travelers since they are probably too small".

To my surprise there was more than meets the eye...

Once inside I found a huge wooden bed with colorful pillows and draped with a mosquito net. Luckily there's remote air-conditioning as well and that's something I definitely need in the tropics.

I have to say that they have really done a good job with the semi open-air bathroom. It's big enough with two showers (one outside under the palm trees) and there's even a stone bathtub.

While taking a shower or while dozing away in your bathtub you can hear the palm trees rustling as the refreshing evening breeze sets in. I'm a big fan of outdoor bathrooms so i'm happy they have one here.

On the other side of the bungalow there's a staircase leading to a small open-air living room which has beautiful white curtains to keep the mosquitoes out in the evening.

This a lovely place to relax with a good book and during the day with some luck you'll have a view on the ocean nearby (pick the bungalow nearest to the entrance).

Right next to the bungalows there are sun loungers with tables and white parasols. From here it's only two steps before you cannon-ball into the kidney-shaped pool. Be careful though, it's only 1.4 m deep...

In one corner of the garden there's a massage bale where you can enjoy some of the famous Balinese massages.

Scrubs and other massage treatments can also be had in your own bungalow in the courtyard of your bathroom.

Across the pool there's the restaurant where breakfast is served (available all day), lunch and dinner too if you like. We've had all three here and can highly recommend it to you too ;-)

The staff is great and they definitely know how to cook ;-)

If you like you can have lunch or dinner it in the living room upstairs as well. A small wine list is available but you have to buy strong spirits yourself.

Dinner is served around 7.30 pm. Amanda, the Australian owner specifically chose to serve dinner early in the evening to avoid drunken tourists arriving at 10 pm for a bite.

The restaurant is big enough for 20 guests and the menu changes daily here. The freshest ingredients are used and for those carnivores "sorry" but red meat isn't served.

For this you have to head over to another of our favorites; Toke's restaurant or Vincent's in Candidasa.

All in all Villa Dua Gils is an excellent place to spend a couple of days when you're in Candi dasa.

Wonderful accommodation in Bali: Villa Dua Gils

It's an intimate place where you can relax, be assured of great food, being served by friendly staff and do nothing if you want to. Basically that is exactly what this place is all about;

A cute little place under the palm trees that provides real value for money ;-)
