When I first arrived at Waka Di Ume Ubud Resort Spa I immediately thought it resembled a tiny peaceful village surrounded by lush green rice fields.
This villa complex has beautiful buildings in different styles along narrow pathways surrounded by plants, flowers and decorated with statues and ponds.
The sand-brushed color fits perfectly in the tropical landscape that surround the entire complex.

The entrance...
Their morning yoga classes will be of much help too if you have come to Bali in search for pure relaxation and to recharge your batteries.
The yoga classes are very popular among Waka di Ume guests and after each session a nutricious breakfast awaits you.
The choice of breakfast is pretty extensive by the way. They even give you the option of trying out the Balinese sweet breakfast. I had a go and it was hard to stop.
Give it a try and you probably don't want anything else in the morning...;-)

Stay right in the middle of the ricefields...
The interior design of the villas is not contemporary, neither classic Balinese. The essence lies in the colors of nature which are found in the white washed painted wood, rough cut stones and the traditional alang alang (grass) roofs.
The large rooms with high ceiling and minimal furniture create a relaxed and spacious feeling.

Natural colours are used for the interior
The seating area is set informally with a low table and large pillows on the floor. Suitable for relaxing and probably a nice spot for a short afternoon nap...;-)
Each room has its own bathroom with a sunken bathtub and a separate indoor and outdoor shower. So if you feel like taking a shower by moonlight with the sounds of crickets on the background, just step outside...

The sunken bathtub and the open air shower on the left
To ensure a 100% feeling of being close to nature, you will not find a television, radio or other audio equipment in the villas.
All you can hear are the sounds of nature and we are always amazed about the sounds the tiny insects and reptiles outside can produce...
Waka di Ume Ubud has different kinds of accommodation: rooms called the 'Lenai' and 3 types of villas.
The first type of villa is the Terrace Villa. This villa is a one storey villa and is suitable for three people as there is one king size bed and one single bed in the room.

extra bed in the Terrace Villa
The other two types of villas come with a 24m2 private pool. The Villa with Pool is suitable for couples. You can choose from a one or two storey unit.
The difference between these two types of unit is that in the two story building the sleeping area is upstairs and the living area on the ground floor.
The largest villa at Waka di Ume Ubud is the Family Villa with Pool. This two storey unit has a king size bed on the second floor and two single beds on the first floor.
This villa also has a balcony on the first floor from which you have first class view over the stunning area.

If you are staying in the Lenai or in the villa without a pool, do not worry. Waka di Ume has a beautiful public pool in the back of their premises.
The location of the two terraced pool is perfectly set along the river gorge and is densely vegetated. Ideal when you want to avoid the sun and prevent from getting sunburnt.
You can spend the whole day lounging near the pool since the villa complex provides light meals here too.
An unique feature of this pool is that the water is salt. A bit different compared with a regular pool, but nevertheless better then the usual chemical overdose you sometimes get after taking a dip...

The two-terraced public pool contains salt water...
Right next to public pool you will find the in-house spa. The owner of Waka di Ume Ubud has built the spa in such away to ensure that their visitors can enjoy the view to the fullest.
The spa treatment room for instance is semi open, with the bathtub set right on the edge. From here you have full view on the river valley that is covered with green tropical trees and plants.
The same view can be seen from the jacuzzi, one of the biggest I have seen so far.

Waka di Ume Spa provides a full menu of treatments. Besides body massages there is the choice of 'rituals' such as body mask or bath treatments, facial, manicure and pedicure treatments.
The average price for a one hour treatment is around 60USD.
But better yet, the spa package option...
You can create your own spa package or you can go for the honeymoon package (also a great option for those who have been married for many years..:-).
This package is spread over 2 days so you can imagine that you will feel reborn at the end of this spa package.

The semi open-air spa room
When staying at Waka di Ume Ubud there are many other activities you can participate in. Besides the stimulating yoga classes in the morning given by an experienced yoga instructor, you can join the rice paddy and village trekkings or hop on the free shuttle to Ubud village.
Another great option is the active cooking course at Waka di Ume. The course starts with a trip to the local market where you and your cooking-instructor select the best ingredients for your Balinese dishes.
Once you have everything you can start cooking right in the middle of the rice fields near the Waka di Ume organic garden.
Of course after all this effort, you will be rewarded with a mouthwatering lunch prepared by yourself.

If you rather have somebody else prepare your food for you, you can enjoy complementary afternoon tea served with delicious Balinese cakes every day.
Waka di Ume also organizes dinner every evening. Plan to have a romantic dinner...? The staff can prepare dinner by candle light in a secluded Bale (Balinese seating area) near the ricefields. Everything is possible for some extra romance...
On top of that every Saturday there is dinner accompanied with a Legong performance. So while enjoying dinner you can have a glance at the rich cultural life that is still very much present in Ubud...

Waka di Ume Ubud is really a beauty in the middle of the rice fields. Its location is ideal for those who want to visit cultural Ubud but want to stay far from the crowd.
Ubud is just 5 minutes downhill from the villa complex, so you will be there in a whisk.
I do have to stress that Waka di Ume Ubud must be 'your type of thing'. If you are searching for a more outgoing-scene and want to stay in a contemporary style villa than this might not be your place.
It is a place for travelers who want to relax, enjoy the silence and natural beauty and wake up on time for the yoga classes. It is a place where you can do anything you want, including nothing if you feel like it...
